if you play directly before a band does that mean you opened for them?

if it does, we opened up for r&b stars mint condition!  honest, we played before them at a katrina benefit at the fine line a couple of weeks ago.  of course, we felt a little silly.  after performing a very lo-fi indie-pop (it was just mandy and nathan) set; to have this polished, veteran, supper smooth machine come on the stage and knock our socks off...  well, dang?  what do you do?  they had a regular member of prince's band sitting in with them for crying out loud!  we felt very small.

thanks to all who've come out to our shows as of late.  the first ave halloween, alaska show was a blast!  and all you kids up front dancing made our night!  you're the best.  coming up in oct we have a really great show with an artist from california, petracovich, at the varsity theater.  if you're a fan of music like mum, portisehead, bjork and the like, we really recomend checking her out.  sample a bunch of songs at www.myspace.com/petracovich.  that show will take place oct 5th.  then on oct 13th (at the varsity as well) fitzgerald will be taking part in a sound unseen/2024 records showcase.  playing with us will be labelmates duplomacy and valet.  fun!  go to www.soundunseen.com for more info on the film festival and other events.

holy crap it's hot here in minneapolis! and not metaphorically speaking or anything, it's really hot. what, something like the hottest string of days we've had in fifty years? super hot days, pollution advisories... somethings not right. i miss the freezing cold, fresh air minnesota of my youth. how have you been? we've been good. played with some great bands recently (ida, cloud cult, kaiser cartel). that was all lots of fun. a couple of nights ago mandy and nathan were invited by local spout press to play spoutstock '05. a fundraiser where local musicians are invited to play one cover song. we chose "falling". you know, the theme song from twin peaks? that was lots of fun too, we hope they made a bunch of money. in other news, we'll be making up some new stenciled t-shirts soon, so look for those. hopefully we'll have some new buttons too. expect wolves. and (we promise!) we will be updating the look of the site soon. and do come out and see us play! in the next couple of weeks we'll be at such exotic locations as minneapolis, st. paul and champaign, il. so come out and say hi (see shows link for further info). thanks! thanks to everyone who came to see us open for tegan and sara a couple of weeks ago!  we were happy to see many old friends and make many new ones after the show.  and thank you to tegan and sara for asking us to play!  we were honored.

it's just been confirmed today, fitzgerald will be playing at first ave. june 3rd as part of the cloud cult cd release party.  and who else will be performing?  well, cloud cult of course, and IDA!  wow, what a show!  and it's all ages!  woo-hoo!  for all the details check out the shows link.

ouch my ear!

the cd release party was so much fun!  thank you to all who came out.  thank you thank you thank you!  hands down, most fun show we've ever played.  read all about it here (thanks cyn!).

i'm sorry to say we had to cancel our show in lawrence kansas tonight.  mandy developed a horrible cold and, alas, has lost her voice and acquired quite an earache.  what can you do?  many apologies to the wonderful guys in namelessnumberheadman and the fine city of lawrence.  hopefully we can line up something else in the future.

hey, guess what?  well i'll tell you, we've been asked to open for tegan and sara at the quest on may 6th!  holy crap, we love tegan and sara!  check the shows section for more info on that.

We don't really think you should cut your hands off.

Where to start?  The new album is all done and ready for you to purchase!  We couldn't be happier with it.  Go listen to it at www.myspace.com/fitzgerald, then if you like, go buy it at www.2024records.com.  From all the great people we got to work with (Darren Jackson, Erik Appelwick, Martin Dosh, Mike Engstrom, Noah Schneider...  we love them all!), to the absolutely beautiful paintings our good friend Caleb made for album artwork, to the great people at 2024 who allowed us to do it all.  We're just so dog-gone happy!

And what to do now that it's all done?  We have a cd release party, that's what!  Come out and celebrate with us on April 23rd, at the turf club in St. Paul.  The evening will start out with the amazing Dosh, then Blue Eyed Son.  After those two we'll take the stage with our band and a few other guests, and to finish it off will be Haley Bonar.  Doesn't that sound like a nice eclectic night of music?  And it's all only $8.  Please come; we would be really happy if you did.

Thanks!

WILL ROBOTS KILL FITZGERALD?

no!  they're our friends!  see how much robots love fitzgerald here.  much thanks to kristofer and robot love for showcasing us like that.  if you haven't visited robot love yet, go!  buy a super cool vinyl art toy (mandy's favorite are the qee designer series), or a nara flip clock, a plush toy, art books...  maybe you need the latest issue of giant robot magazine?  well they have it!  honestly, fitzgerald is glad to have made their acquaintance and is very happy to have them as friends.

the new album is mixed!  well, almost.  maybe a little tweaking here and there, but that's all.  so far the working title is raised by wolves.  it's going to be great!

SLUMBER PARTY!

That's right kids!  Break out the footy pajamas, sleeping bags, pigtails and brownies, because you are invited to the coolest slumber party ever!  Fitzgerald is very excited to let you know that we've been invited to take part in Slumber.  Slumber is a night of beautiful music and imagery, taking place at the MAC in Duluth Saturday, October 23-Sunday, October 24.  7pm-7am.  Bring your pillow.  It's being orgainized by Aaron of Duluth's own if thousands.  Expect a night of music and images to sleep by.  The evening will include performances by artists including if thousands, Al Sparhawk (of Low), Sin Ropas and many many others.  Bands will perform until 2am and from then on out the night will showcase an interactive drone performance and visuals.  Come on!  How often does something like this happen?  You've got plenty of time.  Take off work, clear your schedule...  whatever.  Just come!  It's only five dollars for crying out loud!  Find out more at www.slumberduluth.com

In other news, tracking is over!  Woo-Hoo!  Now we move on to the mixing.  Should start sometime in October.  Let us tell you a little bit about who shows up on the album, ok?  We were lucky enough to have Eric (Vicious Vicious, The The Hopefuls, Kid Dakota, Alva Star) not only engineer, but lend his amazing bass playing to the album as well.  Dosh (Fog, Dosh) was kind enough to lend his drumming, and can he play those drums!  And we are pleased to introduce Noah on clarinet (which we all know is the new electric guitar) and Mike on trombone.  Oh, and Darren (Kid Dakota, The The Hopefuls, Alva Star) plays some bells.  How cute!

Alright, hope to see you all at Slumber,

Need Vegetables?

How's your summer going so far?  Ours?  It's pretty good.  Lot's of bike rides, dips in the lake, going to movies, and plenty of that sweet sweet music we all love so much!

Thanks to everyone who came to our shows over the past month, we had much fun.  For the month of July we're taking a little break.  Hittin' the studio.  You know how it goes.  We will be at Minneapolis' lovely Triple Rock Social Club July 18th, however.  It looks like the "bloody stump performers" might be joining us on stage for this one too.  Also performing that night will be The Roots of Orchis (San Diego) and Decibully (Milwaukee)!  Both very good bands.  Fun!

In the mean time, it's all about the recording.  We're spending much of our free moments holed up in Darren Jackson's (you know, "Kid Dakota"?) home studio.  Darren along with Erik Appelwick (You know, from Vicious Vicious?) are engineering it all.  Fantastic!  Guitars, cellos, computers, banjos, bells, farfisa, a broken vibraphone...  Oh yeah, it's all there!    Swirling, twirling and making magic all the way.  Good times!

Need vegetables?  Well, come shop at the Midtown Farmers Market in lovely Minneapolis on July 17th (ok, we have two shows in July) and see Mandy and Nathan give a little acoustic performance.  Perfect!  Performing that day as well will be the wonderful Break Sea Caravel, all good friends of Fitzgerald.  We're already booking shows for Aug, we'll be playing lovely locations like Des Moines, Duluth, St. Paul and possibly St. Cloud.  Check out the 2024records.com/shows page for future dates.

People like us!

Really, they do!  Need proof?  Check out our reviews at splenidezine.com, as well as the very nice one at southofmainstream.com.  If you happen to live in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area, pick up a copy of the most recent Rift music magazine.  They gave us a nice review too.

Two White Boys With Baseball Caps and Button Up Shirts

We're back, thanks for waiting.  The site has had some technical difficulties lately, but all that's fixed now (thanks 2024!).

Wow, we've had a lot of show's over the past month and a half or so.  Thanks to everyone who's come out, and especially thanks to all who came out to our performance at the 2024 label showcase.  We were very excited to share the stage with the Bloody Stump Choir and Band!  Thanks to all who participated.  If you missed that special event, don't worry, it will happen again (the bloody stumps joining us, not the label showcase.  If you missed that, your're out of luck).

It was a weird night for us.  If you were there and noticed us referencing the fact that we just learned someone was breaking into our house, we weren't trying to be funny and strange, it was the truth!  Right before we hit the stage our 14 year old house guest gave us a terrified phone call.  Apperently, two white boys in button up shirts and baseball caps were hanging out in our back yard.  Then they started yelling for our young guest to come out, then they started banging on the door and trying to get in!  Don't worry; the police were called, a good friend was sent to rescue our house guest and the two white boys finally left.  Everyone is ok (although we can't vouch for the two white boys, we kind of hope the night didn't turn out so well for them).

We have lots of shows coming up in the next few weeks.  Please come out and see us before we disapear into the studio (well, somewhere in Darren's house, but we will disapear) in the middle of June.  We'll be playing such exotic locations as St. Cloud, Duluth, and even St. Paul.  Check out the "shows" link at 2024records.com for more details.

Fitzgerald on TV!

Well have you ever!?  Who knew it could happen?  We didn't, but Fitzgerald is indeed going to be on television tomorrow.  Fri, April 9th, on Fox 9, channel 9 in the MPLS/St. Paul area.  It'll be during their morning talk show thingy, on a segment called Sound Check

No, seriously, we just taped it this morning!  It was lots of fun; the staff and crew were very nice to us.  Nathan had a good time discovering that all the fancy computer devices you see in the background of the weather reports are actually (indeed!) fake.  They're just plastic facades!  And Mandy was very pleased to see the garden segment taping, where she learned about a special blue and green hydrangea.  Exciting!  What a morning! Fitzgerald at the Triple Rock

Just confirmed today: we're happy to announce that we'll be gracing the fine stage of the Triple Rock Social Club, April 12th at 10pm.  We'll be opening for the lovely/cascading/wistful music makers, Ester Drang. Apr 1, 2004

Okay, now it's cold again.

Looks like I spoke a little to soon, regarding when we'll start working on the new album. As these things inevitably do, it's all changed... sort of. It will begin soon, but not until June. And I'm sorry to say; it won't be taking place in a kitchen. It actually sounds like it will take place in a room that's more or less meant for recording. Can Fitzgerald handle it? Of course we can! We're excited to start working with Darren in any environment! Even if it means we don't get to say we recorded an album in a kitchen.

Hey everyone in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area, come see us play this Wednesday at the Acadia Theater! For more details go to the shows link. There's going to be two other excellent bands playing with us, and we'll be performing a bunch of new material. It's going to be fun! Mar 30, 2004

I hear birds chirping

Oops, it's been a while.  Sorry about that.  What to say?...

First and foremost we are absolutely tickled to announce that starting in mid-April Fitzgerald will be going into the studio to begin work on our next album.  And this time, there will be no recording in bedrooms.  Uh-uhh!  We're so far beyond that now.  This time, we move to (are you ready)... the kitchen!  Honestly, it's going to be great! At the helm of it all will be Kid Dakota's Darren Jackson, working the computer and sliders and such. We are very excited to start working with Darren and are ticking off the days until mid-April.  We hope to add a wide variety of instrumentation and sounds on this album.  If curious, look back to this website for progress reports.  We hope to release it by late summer.  And of course, it will be released on everyone's favorite little up-and-comer label, 2024 records!

Thanks to everyone who has come out to our shows lately.  The last Acadia show was a blast!  Get ready to do it again wed, march 31st (Acadia theater).  Fitzgerald is very happy to share the stage with Dangerous Laser Missing.  Doesn't that sound fun!  It's going to be four dollars and starts at eight.  There's also going to be a benefit show for the Fallout show space (Famination) that's doubling as a benefit for the relief organization Feeding Children International.  That'll be taking place Fri, March 26th.  We're in the process of setting up a bunch of shows, into the summer.  So make sure to check out the shows link to see where we're playing next.

It's springtime!  Turn off your computer, go outside and do something!

Fitzgerald on indieworkshop.com!

Well what do you know, our very first review!  Won't you savor it with us?  Check it out at indieworkshop.com

Feb 24, 2004

------------------------------------------

Funny how things work, isn't it?

Wow, it sure is wet outside.

Fitzgerald is happy to announce the recent addition of Jason Peterson on electric guitar! Yes, it's the same Jason Peterson who scorched your face off in such bands as Fed By Ravens and Tora! Tora! Torrance! (and of course Lugosi, does anyone remember Lugosi?). He's with us now. Funny how things work, isn't it? It's been nice to add the extra instrumentation and we're excited to see what happens in the future.

The past few weeks have been extremely busy for us. Between playing live and radio shows, Nathan's guest spots, and Four Fingers (band Nathan plays cello in), we've been swamped! Luckily the rest of February and March are a little more relaxed. We hope to go into the studio (whatever form that may take, usually for us that means a bedroom) soon and start working out some new songs and laying down tracks. If you've been to our live shows any time recently you know we have quite a few new songs. We're itching to get them recorded and flesh out the arrangements. So, hopefully that will be starting soon.

Speaking of live shows, you are all invited to the wonderful event that is to take place Fri, Feb 27th. Dead of Winter (that's what I finally decided to call the nights I book shows at Acadia Theater, like it?) is very excited to present The Hug, Fitzgerald, and Dan Scott. With pre-show music provided by Four Fingers (remember, the band Nathan plays cello in). The Hug is the new project featuring Sally Grayson, of local indie-rockers Standbye. It will also be featuring, direct from Deutschland, Marcus on bass. The Hug has played a handful of shows in Germany, and we're happy to host their first stateside performance. We're also very pleased to have coaxed Dan Scott out of his hiding (and away from that pesky Live In Japan) to perform a bunch of new songs, with just him and his guitar. Precious! And of course Four Fingers will rip you apart with their acoustic free jazz/tango/gypsy/metal insanity before the night even technically begins! So get there early. That's the Acadia Theater (1931 Nicollet Ave S., MPLS. On the corner of Nicollet and Franklin). Fri, Feb 27th at 8pm, four dollars at the door.

What Next?

We braved forgotten merchandise, changing a flat tire inside of a frozen tornado, and nearly being destroyed by a semi (immediately after we bought the new tire, mind you) all in order to perform in Des Moines. Last night we drove through one of the worst storms this winter just to serenade the tired little minds of St. Cloud college students. What will try stop us next? Broken limbs? An assasin's bullet? Vampires? It's hard to say.

Luckilly we won't have to travel too far for our next show, right here in Minneapolis. If your free this Saturday (Feb. 7) and would like to see some nice art and hear some nice music, please join us at The Fallout at 7pm. It's a mid-show reception for their current exhibit, Four Women: Group Show. It's free and all ages! Donations will be welcomed.

According to Mandy, Nathan is a musical hussy. It's true. Feb 3, 2004

Did you know that Fitzgerald's latest release, light a match and burn it slowly, is available for purchase at cdbaby.com? And what's more, did you know that you can sample the entire album there as well? Fitzgerald on the radio!
We, Fitzgerald, will be the Feb. 2nd guests on KVSC's (St. Cloud, MN) Monday Night Live. Starting at 10pm we'll be performing a full set of music live, in their studios. You can tune in and listen on your radio at 88.1fm, or if you're not in the listening area, you can hear it all on the Internet at www.kvsc.org. If you live in St. Cloud, you can actually watch the whole thing broadcast on UTVS, Channel 7 or 21. This is only our second time on live radio, so we're very excited and really really terrified. Alien Space Craft Spotted On White House Lawn!
Hi everybody!  From now on, we (Fitzgerald) can update this page whenever we please.  It's an exciting time for us, as we're sure you all know.  We know in the past this page was updated pretty sporadically and rarely.  But not anymore sister!  We hope this web page will now become a more useful tool for fulfilling all of your Fitzgerald needs.

In recent show news, we're playing a really last minute show tonight (Jan. 9th) at Big V's in St. Paul.  It'll be starting around ten, so come out if you got nothing else to do.  Next week, Jan. 17th, we'll be playing a really fun show at Gallery Schmallery in Nordeast Minneapolis.  Playing along with Fitzgerald will be Eric Douglas Tasa (alt country/songwriter stuff), Pocahontas County (bluegrass) and Jason Woolery and the Family Bookhouse (Jason Woolery and his idiot brother singing nonsensical songs about human volcanoes and such).  So, it looks like it's going to be a very eclectic night, which is the way we like it.  For any of you Twin Citians who may feel like taking a little road trip later this month, Fitzgerald will be playing Wed, Jan 21st in bueatiful Des Moines at the spectacular Vaudeville Mews.  We played there in Nov, and have to say, we're happy to go back.  It's a very cool space with lots of nice people.

Other than that, it's been all writing and practicing for us.  Nathan's other band (well not his band, but he plays cello in it) Four Fingers have been very hard at work as well.  Nathan and Mandy have also been busy preparing a bunch of songs for a little project they've been working on, called Arctic Circle.  It's a set of music based around drum loops, samples, a casiotone, cello, banjo and computer.  Expiremental sort of stuff.  If your interested in how it turns out, come see them play along with Rust and Primer, Jan 23rd at the Acadia Theater.

Meanwhile, Mandy learned to knit.  Thank you.

Another great show at the Turf Club on Friday. Much thanks to Mike Gunther for having us play his CD release show. Go and pick up his record, it's quite good! Thanks also to the Midnight Evils for rockin' our pants off as well...it's like they drink motor oil before they play and spit diesel fuel for an encore. If you haven't, you must see them. All is well otherwise. We're booking shows, planning world domination and making some tasty carrot cake. Check back often for more enthralling news and show updates. It's time to go play outside... Fitzgerald heralds Mike Gunther CD release party
Despite a broken string on the first song, Fitzgerald heroically pressed on through their set at the Turf Club on Friday night. The crowd was quite nice and even hoisted a few beers among the clapping, squealing, and whistling. The Midnight Evils sent quite a few softies to the Clown Lounge as they charged through their Jagermeister-fueled set. Then Mike Gunther & His Restless Souls, well, you really had to be there, my friends. To commemorate their CD release show he channeled many of the great stage performers of our time, and even strapped on a marching bass drum for a song. True. May 30, 2003

------------------------------------------

Thanks to everyone who came out to the Bedlam Theatre on the 5th! You might have noticed we were a little short handed since our drummer decided to be in NYC that weekend. We'll let it slide this time... Thanks also to Nate from MC Squared for having us play his party last Friday night. There was lots of Canada Dry to go around and MC Squared dropped a some tyte rhymes. Come on out to the Turf Club on Friday, May 30th around 10pm for Mike Gunther and his Restless Souls record release show! Well be holding down the opening slot followed by the Midnight Evils then Mike and his crew. It's gonna be a good mix, we're amped...don't miss it! May 20, 2003

Come out to the Bedlam Theatre (514 1/2 Cedar Ave.) on May 5th at 9pm and we will be playing with 2 other bands that are TBA. It's $3. If you're really into planning ahead 2024 Records (our label) is having a showcase July 20 at the Bryant Lake Theater: Minneapolis, MN. It will be us, Romantica and a part of Standbye droppin' some musical stylings. Wash your hands. Apr 30, 2003

We hope you all got your taxes in on time. Did you? All is well on our side of the web. New songs are being written and a festival tour is in the works for mid to late summer. The fine folks at Tinderbox are showing us the way. The house is abounding in new sounds and experimental vibes. Nathan is donning a flat head screwdriver on the fret board and the laptop may make it into the live-mix soon. Dave is abounding in bass fuzz and Nicholas finally got his cast off! We are all elated. Beware he does have a cane now.. Look for some shows in and around Minneapolis being posted in the coming weeks and a review at indieworkshop.com. Apr 15, 2003

------------------------------------------

The website is up and being refined daily. We've begun booking shows in support of the new record and plan to hit the road as soon as we can. Keep checking back for updated tour dates. If you live in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area you can pick up a copy of the record at any Cheapo, The Electric Fetus or Treehouse Records. Let the hype begin. Apr 10, 2003

And we're back!

Sorry for the delay, there have been some technical difficulties on the site, but it's all fixed now (thanks 2024!).

These past couple of months have been very busy ones.  We've had quite a few shows, thanks to all who were able to make it out to them!  especially those of you who cought our 2024 records label showcase performance.  What a night!  It was our plesure to share the stage with the Bloody Stump Choir and Band.  Thanks to all who participated.  If you missed it, don't worry.  It will happen again soon (The bloody stump part, if you missed the label showcase, we're sorry.  You'll have to wait another year.)

It was a weird night for us.  Right before (like, minutes!) we went on stage, we got a terrified phone call from our 14 year old house guest.  Two white boys in button up shirts and baseball caps (yikes!) were hanging out in our back yard and yelling.  Eventually they began banging on the door and trying to get in.  So, with that fresh in our heads, we hit the stage.  Don't worry though, the cops were called, our good friend was dispatched to rescue our teffified guest, and the two white boys did leave.  Eveyone is safe (well, we can't vouch for the two white boys, although we kind of hope something happened to them).

In the next couple of weeks we'll be playing alot of shows, come see us before we disapear into the studio (well, Darren's house, but we will disapear into it)!  We'll be all over; St. Cloud, Duluth and even St. Paul.  Check out the shows link at the 2024records.com site for details.
