It's priced at $19.97, with a limit of two discs per person. The limited run of 30,000 copies is expected to sell out within hours, if not minutes.

Other artists on the compilation include Shawn Colvin, Ryan Adams, Brandi Carlile, Keane, Counting Crows, Lifehouse, Augustana, Colin Hay, Colbie Caillat, the Plain White T's, Corinne Bailey Rae, Gomez, G. Love, Mozella, Patty Griffin and local band Romantica.

All proceeds from sales of the "Cities 97 Sampler" will go to a variety of local charities. The 2006 "Sampler" raised more than $600,000, and once this year's sales are counted, the total raised for the entire series is expected to top $6.4 million."

"America" named one of the 10 best!
The Star Tribune's Local Music Writer Chris Riemendschneider published his list of the best local CDs from the first half of 2007 and look who's there...

"America," Romantica (2024) -- "It's a beautifully restrained collection. In a perfect world, the soccer, er, football ditty "The National Side" would score on local FM stations."

We couldn't agree more!

Just head here and experience all the wonder and magic as if you had been there when it actually happened! Romantica perform three songs off their new album "America," and chat with Mary Lucia about it's creation. Simply delightful!

More love for Romantica's "America"
In the upcoming June issue of METRO Rob Van Alstyne calls America "breezy yet memorable" and "Romantica’s mid-tempo acoustic pop follows tried-and-true formulas, while instrumental fills (a twinkling xylophone trill here, a dollop of harmonica there) elevate the tunes beyond the commonplace." Read the full review here.

Romantica's first "America" review
Steve Stockman hosted a BBC radio show for 10 years and spun Romantica's "It's Your Weakness That I Want" quite a bit. Here's his review of their new record.

Three Years, Three Songwriting Awards!
They've done it again! Romantica have been awarded 2nd Place in the International Songwriting Competition in the Americana category for the song "Queen of Hearts." That's their third time placing in the awards in as many years! The song has something to do with the early death of the great soul, Jeff Buckley. And we're thrilled that Ben's songwriting has been honored again. You can listen to "Queen of Hearts" here.

Romantica CD Release Party Set For June 8th!
Summer.  It's really not all that far away.  And what better way to celebrate the beginning of summer than by gathering in a dark room and listening to music?  OK. maybe there are better ways to celebrate summer, but there is NO better way to celebrate music than seeing a great live band played excellent new songs from their brand new CD.  It's gonna go down just like that Friday, June 8th at the beautiful Varsity Theater when Romantica mark the release of their second 2024 release, "America."  We'll see you there, right?  Right.

TPC and Duplomacy Make Local Critics Best Of 2006 List
The Twin Cities Critics Tally of the Top 20 best locally released CDs of 2006 is out and both CDs we put out last year made the list! See for yourself:

The Plastic Constellations, "Crusades" (French Kiss/2024) -- The third album by this stormy but emo-less punk quartet shows the kind of tightness that comes from being a band since freshman year at Hopkins High. It also has the sort of unbridled energy and imaginative lyricism that comes from being not all that far removed from high school.

Duplomacy, "All These Long Drives" (2024) With willowy voiced frontman Andy Flynn leading the way, this new quintet echoes the trendy but perhaps timeless sounds of downbeat, up-tempo guitar-noodling Northwest bands like the Shins and Death Cab for Cutie.

Help Romantica Win!
For the 3rd year in a row, Romantica have a song in the finals of the International Songwriting Competion! Except this year, they have not one, but two! Go HERE to vote for THE NATIONAL SIDE (Folk/Singer Songwriter) or QUEEN OF HEARTS (Americana) in the "Peoples Voice" category of the competition. And then keep your fingers crossed....at least until March.

April, My Friends!

Duplomacy reviewed in PULSE

Steve McPherson has some very nice things to say about Duplomacy in his PULSE review...

"All These Long Drives accomplishes the difficult task of being a simple album about complex things, sketching the outlines of the complicated lives of its protagonists with a few strokes of guitar here and a well-placed wash of reverb there... It's an album that's cut out for adoration by the broken-hearted, by people who feel revenge is a dish best served on guitars and notebooks. I'm only sorry it took me this long to getting around to falling in love with it."

All Is Not Quiet
It's 2007 and things may seem relatively quiet here at 2024 but believe you me, they are not.  Toiling away in the dark, generally windowless yet magical world of the recording studio recently, presently and soon are Romantica, The Plastic Constellations, Ghost In The Water (Fitzgerald's electro alter ego) and The Hopefuls.  And hopefully soon, the fruits of their labor will be gracing your indie-rock loving ears.  So keep your eyes and ears peeled!

Six Degrees of 2024 Records
As the leaves fall and the tempurature drops, what better way to spend a Friday night than wrapped up in front of a roaring fire with a mug of hot chocolate. Come to think of it, that's a really lame way to spend a Friday night on Halloween weekend. Instead, might we suggest heading down to The Turf Club and seeing three bands that all have ties to 2024 Records? Just call us the Twin Cities version of Kevin Bacon.

First, there is Duplomacy. They are directly tied to 2024 as a band on the label. Also on the bill is none other than Kid Dakota (the other band that our very own Darren Jackson fronts). Of course, Darren is also in 2024 band, The Hopefuls. Finally... the reason for the night... The Winter Blanket! (Which features two former 2024 employees (Mr. Dave Campbell and Mr. Todd Hansen). The Blanket are releasing an EP called "Golden Sun" and this is their release party for the record.

So there you have it. Three bands. Three reasons to make your presence known at The Turf Club this Friday night!

Music (For Robots) Chimes In On "All These Long Drives"
Beloved indie music blog, Music (For Robots) wrote a very nice feature on Duplomacy's "All These Long Drives" calling it "a hell of a record." They singled out "Untitled (For Matthew)" "Holiday" and the title track as "stunners." They also had some great things to say about other 2024 bands like The Hopefuls, Fitzgerald and The Plastic Constellations. See for yourself @ music.for-robots.com!

Want The Hopefuls To Play Just For You?

Or heck, you can just buy them yourself and they can playjust for you!
10/19/06

The Fuses Are Actually Still Burning...
The Hopefuls have seen ample airplay locally on stations like The Current, Drive 105 and Radio K.  And for good reason!  What's not to like?  Well, KEXP in Seattle is giving "Let's Go!" some love as well!  If you are a Seattle-dwelling Hopefuls fan or an avid online listener to KEXP, why not let them know you'd like to hear some more?  Head on over to www.kexp.com.
10/12/06

Gorilla vs. Bear Goes Ape Over Duplomacy
Get it? Gorilla?... Bear?... Ape? Ok, it was dumb, but terribly hard to resist once I thought of it. What ISN'T dumb is Duplomacy's feature on Gorilla vs. Bear! Calling their music, "layered, dreamy, pristine pop," the blog also acknowledges the validity of comparisons to Pavement, REM, Nada Surf, and pre-suck Death Cab for Cutie (their words not ours, though we're in agreement unless you love new Death Cab). Check it out for yourself!
7/26/06

Another rave review for Duplomacy
Today's I Guess I'm Floating blog entry is all about our boys. Connor calls the band's sound "...like a mix of Pinkerton-era Weezer and Something About Airplanes-era Death Cab...which is like the best of both worlds for those bands." Wasn't that nice of him? Yes!
6/29/06

NAMEDROPPED!
Matt Kretzman, from buzz-band Tapes 'N Tapes', was recently asked by Mammoth Music who the best bands in Minneapolis are right now. One band he mentioned was our very own Plastic Constellations! The other was well, another 2024 band: Duplomacy! Here's what Mr. Kretzman said: "There's this band called Duplomacy. Their record should be coming out some time soon. It's taken forever to get it out, but I think they're going to do really well. I mean, people are going to like it. It's definitely more mellow, but it's just great, great pop songs. It'll go over really well." We agree :)
6/28/06

New TPC track reviewed on Pitchfork!
We promised major action today and we deliver. "Sancho Panza" from TPC's new record, "Crusades" (out January, 24 2006) scores 4 stars and these thoughts from Pitchfork's Nick Sylvester.

...But the guitar grinds that swoop in/out, the octave groove under the verse, the clappy-clap turnarounds, the band's sheer commitment to it all really, even to the groans--they ain't Dudley, but he's on his way. Here's to 2006's hot topic

Read the full review here. Then go tell a friend. Wow, what a way to start a Friday.Go to the jukebox to listen to the track! Get on it!

Joe Sakamota from The Toronto Star has heard the buzz and weighed in on the song "People" from the upcoming Duplomacy record saying,"It is, as Neil Finn memorably observed, like four seasons in one day...this fine work in progress opens with a brooding, Angelo Badalamenti/Twin Peaks flourish, subtly shifts into Crazy Horse territory" And guess what, there's a Podcast too! Scroll to the end of the file to hear the new Duplomacy jam.

The Hold Steady loves TPC...dearly.

Tad Kubler of The Hold Steady sends out some love to our boys in TPC. He is quoted in their cover story in this week's Pulse saying:

The Plastic Constellations: it was such a fucking privilege to play with those guys out here [at CMJ]. Their enthusiasm is just above and beyond anybody else's, and aside from being great players and great songwriters, just to watch how much fun those guys have together is really really a joyous thing."

Just sayin'. Thanks Tad.

-TPC and 2024

Side note: New TPC record "Crusades" coming your way January 24, 2006. It's a co-release between Frenchkiss/2024. We're excited. They're excited. Now you get excited! It's on.

The Twin Cities' 89.3 FM officially changes format from classical to sweet, sweet indie today! Please tune in and support the station. Today's Star Tribune has an article that talks about the new station and graciously mentions 2024's own The Hopefuls:

The station will play adult-radio regulars like U2, older artists like Johnny Cash and locals like The Hopefuls." Welcome, KCMP!

Twin Cities have a new radio station!
The Hopefuls were mentioned and Nathan was quoted today in a Star Tribune article about KCMP, the classical music station that was recently purchased by Minnesota Public Radio. Promising to be "antiformat" and to play a wider range of independent music, the station has former REV-105 staff on board and should go live in early 2005. Here's the press release from MPR. Evidently they're taking some heat for this decision so send some encouragement their way on the WCMP blog, wouldya?
12/17/04

12/03/04

Valet scores an "Album of the Week" on treblezine.com!
A rave review of Life on the Installment Plan has been dropped by treblezine.com. Here's a taste for ya, "They don't share Husker Du's aggression, The Replacements' chaotic tendencies, Prince's funkiness or The Minutemen's penchant for brevity. Nonetheless, they can have their own notch next to all of these bands in the Mpls Hall of Fame, merely for being among the best bands to come out of the Midwestern locale." You can read the rest of the review here.

Check the sidebar for the full deal on our happenings in the big city. To recap, good times were had by all. We pressed the flesh and made new friends. We saw old friends and drank much free beer at the daily food and booze party put on by Fader. There was a rumored siting of James Iha from Smashing Pumpkins fame. A rowdy hotel party with the folks from Vitriol at which Jerry couldn't get enough of Linsday's cell phone ring tone. All in all, great times, good shows and lots o' walkin'.

Wow, this is good news. The Hopefuls captured not only "Best Indie Recording" for The Fuses Refuse to Burn but also *drum roll* "New Artist of the Year at the 2004 Minnesota Music Awards! *CRASH*

And that's not all folks. No, indeedy. Romantica was honored with " Best Acoustic/folk/Americana recording" for It's Your Weakness That I Want! Buy them drinks....
9/23/04

"Mazatlan" gets a 7.8 from porcys.com
Yes it is true, more kind words for TPC from across the pond. One problem, we don't have an English translation of the review. Check it here and if you can help us out with a translation let us know via our Contact page. Here's a tidbit to give you an idea of what we're dealing with,"Ile to juY´ razy syszeliÊmy t´ archetypowà histori´? Kilku wraY´liwych czternastolatków, przyjació marzàcych o rockowej karierze, postanawia zaoY´yç zespó." Ready, set, translate!
9/21/04

TPC reviewed in Pop Matters!
Pop Matters has bestowed some kind words on "Mazatlan". Here's a taste, "The band sounds as focused and assured as any more seasoned rock act, though in the place of an older group's 'maturity' the Constellations possess 'youthful exuberance', that most ephemeral and priceless of rock 'n' roll virtues." Now order a side of Ranch dressing and dig into the tasty goodness here.
9/20/04

Jeff Allen from TPC interviewed on indieworkshop.com
It's time to procrastinate! Check the horizon for your boss, grab some java from the break room, kick back and read Jeffs' thoughts on TPC, Minneapolis, growing up, Hip Hop, Journey and flaming CDRs. You may begin...now!

Valet featured in Star Tribune, Pioneer Press today
Let's focus on readin' and forget about writin' and 'rithmatic. Chris Riemenschneider calls Valet the "best brooding pop-rock band in town" and Life on the Installment Plan "a sophisticated, semi-political, moody collection filled with imaginative story-songs" in the Star Tribune today.

On the other side of the river, the Pioneer Press deemed Valet's CD release show a "Best Bet" and says Life "unleashes plenty of dreamy melodies decorated with Kyle's poet-worthy lyrics."
9/17/04

Valet's new record playable online!
What, the boss is out golfing?! That crafty devil. Take advantage and listen to Valet's new record online at valetmusic.com. Memorize the songs so you can mouth along on Friday's A-Listed CD release show with the truest of fans! And share knowing, smiling glances.

The Hopefuls on scooters?

The boys nearly caused a few accidents tonight riding Vespa lookalikes around for their first music video. Apparently the sight of five dudes in (matching) tracksuits riding (matching) scooters causes rubbernecking. "Motobike" is the song, naturally, and as soon as the video is done we'll post it so you can watch in a tiny window. Awesome, huh? Join their mailing list for immediate notification...

"Hi. Anyway, we are accepting resumes for fall internships, particularly those with promotions/marketing ambitions or graphic design skills. Web design/programming nerd? Even better. We'll be accepting resumes and portfolios until the end of September. If you're a self-starting, hardworking, independent music lover drop us a line. We'd love to hear from you at internships@2024records.com."

Duplomacy signs with 2024
We're proud to announce that Minneapolis rising stars Duplomacy have inked a recording deal with 2024! Though a very "new" band, they have raised quite a ruckus with their unique indie pop that has many referencing Elliott Smith and Pedro the Lion. Look for tracks in the 2024 jukebox soon!

How about some French press...and we don't mean coffee!
The Plastic Constellations have crossed the pond and picked up some kind words from COIN!. It's on, world domination is at hand. Get out your pocket translator and check it
8/10/04

Mazatlan #4 on Insound's topseller list!
Ah yes, it's good to see two Minnesota bands in the top 5. Mazatlan, The Plastic Constellations' new record, sits prettily at #4 at Insound. Can it reach #1? Only if you and all your friends buy it, (gal)pal. Though it would be kind of sad to unseat A Lifetime of Temporary Relief: B-sides and Rarities, the masterful box set by Duluth's Low...

Romantica reviewed in Paste Magazine
Them Romantica boys, they done gone national on us. See here, Paste Magazine gave them a 3 star review (great fellers) in them's newest issue, sayin' "This Minnesota band upholds the tradition of earnest, sweet Heartland rock with better-than-average melodic sense, plus effective use of varied instruments (with help from part-time Wilco violinist Jessy Greene). Lead singer and songwriter Ben Kyle, a Minnesotan-by-way-of-Ireland, opens up his Americana with some of the wistful tinge of classic Irish rock."

The Hopefuls on InRadio compilation
Ready, set, go! get the new InRadio compilation and support independent music. Thousands of people's ears are being popped by The Hopefuls' song "Holiday." Coincidentally enough, this particular compilation is also called "The Hopefuls." But don't let that confuse you.

More about InRadio: It's a bi-monthly, 74-minute audio magazine on CD. It was launched and is co-published by Utne Reader. The format includes music, commentary, interviews, short documentaries and stories. Single copies are available at independent coffee shops, bookstores and co-ops in the Twin Cities metro area, and you can subscribe online too.

The Fuses Refuse to Burn "one of 2004's best" in Star Tribune!
The Hopefuls' debut record is on the Star Tribune's Top 10 Local CD's (so far) list. Chris Riemenschneider calls The Hopefuls a "...charmed new group. Dressed up with Olympic track suits and Olympian pop hooks, they trace the Cars, Weezer and Fountains of Wayne in character-filled songs about mouthy girls, rich kids and stoned slackers."
7/23/04

The Hopefuls featured in City Pages
Lindsey Thomas gives you the what's what on our favorite tracksuited tetherballers:
"Channeling the rush of gold medal victory, The Hopefuls' excellent debut album The Fuses Refuse to Burn is the soundtrack to a summer of nonstop waterslides and beach volleyball."
And how! Crowds can't seem to stand still more than two songs when the Hopefuls unleash the perfect power of pop. Email the article to your friends if you really love them.

TPC knocks Lost at Sea down flat!
It's the truth, just read the review. Lostatsea.net have thrown down a rating of 9.5 out of 10 for Mazatlan. Here's a taste of the good stuff:
"As someone whose livelihood is fairly well consumed by listening to music, it's not often an album knocks me down flat - The Plastic Constellations have done just that....Mazatlan secures a place for The Plastic Constellations in the same hallowed indie rock canon as the Dismemberment Plan and Lifter Puller, rising to the top of anything I've heard this far."
Wow. Good times!

And to all a good night
A great time was had by all at the 2024/Vitriol Radio party Saturday night. We celebrated Vitriol's one year anniversary and their success in getting our bands up on them thar CMJ college radio charts. Witness:

Matt from The Hopefuls, John from Friends Like These, Dave from Electric Fetus/KQRS, and Melissa from City Pages. They could be in Harpers, don't you think?

In this incriminating shot you can clearly see that Jesse is in the middle of a victorious keg stand.

And lastly but certainly not leastly, what happens when you do keg stands. Let that be a warning to you, kids!

"We're flyin' international..."
All right! Our hands hurt after filling out a million customs forms at the post office. We shipped TPC records to such far away places as Italy, Australia, the UK, and (Nathan's ancestral homeland) Norway. And press requests from Big Magazines continue to pour in at a frightening rate. Could it be that TPC will be giving sit-up tips in the next Men's Health? Let's hope.

The Plastic Constellations are the featured review on Pitchfork today!
Pitchfork is singing the praises of TPC once again. "Mazatlan" is the featured review today (and listed as "best new music), receiving an 8.5 out of 10. Here's a quick fix:
"As chic as the guitar work and complex song structures may be, though, Mazatlan's most immediately winning quality is its abundance of anthemic choruses....Lesser bands might spend a decade trying to get to this point, only to find themselves already washed up, but The Plastic Constellations make it look easy, and seem ready for more."

The Plastic Constellations featured on download.com
Wow, TPC is featured on the front page as THE TOP "editor's pick," and has been all week! This is a huge music site that basically bought mp3.com when they went belly up (moment of silence here). Hooray! (Note: all good things come to an end, but you can still download songs from TPC's download.com page)

The Plastic Constellations on Pitchfork!
Hell-o! TPC garnered a 4.5 star review on Pitchfork. We pass the mic to Mr. Ryan Schreiber...
"These guys happen to be all about the great chorus, an unfortunate rarity in these too-posey garage-rock times. Sending the intensity of Les Savy Fav through a wringer of unshakable pop melodies that boast unexpected twists and shouts, Plastic Constellations nail their bludgeoning, super-anthemic rock choruses with an energy infectious enough to directly affect your bloodflow. "We Came to Play" is just the opening track on a record that boils over with fuck-yes moments, its chorus announced by a machine-gun drum fill, a pause, and then a crashing ride cymbal as the song spirals into its glorious fist-pumping shoutalong chorus. Damn, that feels good."

2024 inks digital distribution deal with IODA
We're rocketing into this new digital music millenium thing, people. We scrutinized many, and in the end only one stood above the smoke and fire: Independent Online Distribution Alliance (IODA), which provides digital distribution services for independent record labels, artists and publishers. Their clients include companies like Barsuk and Secretly Canadian. Soon, you'll be able to buy our computer music files from iTunes, Napster, MusicMatch, and the rest of their ilk. A more detailed press release is forthcoming. Awesome.

On the wings of Dominators
Aye, 'tis a sad thing indeed we can't hang with The Plastic Constellations on account a-them a-tourin'. But rest easy, lads and lasses, because they're being carried to the East Coast in the 2024 Dodge Touring Chariot--on the cushioned bed of air that only four brand new "Dominator" 6-ply tires can provide, no less! Shed no tears! Spill no beers! They must spread their magic throughout the Land.

Pioneer Press reviews The Plastic Constellations
We love reviews. We love great reviews even more--when journalists hit the proverbial nail smack on the head. Molly Priesmeyer did just that:

"TPC are a more danceable Dismemberment Plan, a groovier Thursday and a funkier At the Drive-in. "Davico" sounds like emo-angst got kicked by the pop bombast of the Shins, while "Movement Momentum" sounds like D.C. punk band Fugazi drunk on New York hip-hop. Though the TPC are far from rap-rock, the group explores the lyrical stylings of punk-hop and punk-grit through strutting fast-talk segues that burst into shout-along choruses."
5/31/04

The Plastic Constellations reviewed on indieworkshop.com
Check out the review of Mazatlan post haste! Indieworkshop is one of the best online zines for indie music. In the featured revew, they say the record is "...powerful and fresh. It's just what this summer needed, a solid rock album. If you need something to blare from your car stereo or something to crank up when you're hanging with some of your friends, this will fit the bill. It might not be the best rock album of 2004...but it is so far."
5/26/04

Glowing reviews for Fitzgerald
Light a Match and Burn It Slowly got 4.5 out of 5 stars on South of Mainstream:

"Fitzgerald, a spritely duo from Minnesota, have created a gem of a pop album that sounds fresh, new and energetic. It's also smart and quirky, making for a new perfect listening experience ... This is an album that reinforced my hope that pop music with meaning and purpose can really exist. Spirituality, honesty and passion merge together in a bevy of melodic charm and beauty."

But that's not all! Splendid Ezine says the record is "...beautifully, painstakingly constructed, from the delicate design of the packaging to the graceful intertwining of the guitar tracks."

A sincere thanks to everyone that came to the 2024 showcase last night! According to our algebra, you helped us raise 19% of the cost of the touring van--incredible! The Star Tribune is one of the top 20 largest newspapers in the nation, with a daily circulation of 380,354 and a Sunday circulation of 677,929. The Plastic Constellations on howwastheshow.com
Check out Traci Hanson's review of TPC's CD release show! She says "...TPC is indefinable but nothing short of fantastic. The groove-heavy bass lines and beat-centered vocals make these boys a must hear. I've heard comparisons being made...something about the hyperactive little brothers of Lifter Puller, and I've heard of the fandom of Atmosphere's Slug, but what stands tallest is the fact that theirs is a truly unique sound. While the influences are obviously there, they're blended into something I've never heard before. And that makes me love them."
5/04/04

The Hopefuls reviewed in Star Tribune
Columnist Chris Riemenschneider says The Hopefuls frontmen Darren Jackson and Erik Appelwick "...trade off Lennon/McCartney-style on upbeat gems recalling Fountains of Wayne
